Trip Report: September 2013

Backpacking, Pine River Trail, Weminuche Wilderness, Colorado

Telluride Blues and Brews Festival

Introduction

Not much to report on this trip. I left this page up because of the trip planning information (maps, guidebooks excerpts, etc.) in the sidebar.

Backpacking: Simple, Easy Trip This Year

I hiked up the Pine River by Vallecito Reservoir in southwestern Colorado. I entered the Weminuche Wilderness and camped for three nights near the confluence of Lake Creek and the Pine River. I day hiked and fished. In the evening of the third night, it began raining hard. This continued all night and persisted the next morning. At about noon, I decided to cut my planned stay by one day. I hiked out to the trailhead and met Connie at the airport as she arrived that afternoon. We had dinner at Seasons in Durango and stayed at our townhouse at Silverpick. We spent the next day working on the townhouse.

Telluride Blues and Brews Festival

On Thursday we drove to Telluride for the festival. We checked into the Camel's Garden Hotel, 250 W. San Juan Ave, (970) 728-9300. We really liked this hotel for Blues and Brews. It is perfectly located for activities in town, and it is right next to the gondola to Mountain Village.

In celebration of the twentieth anniversary, the organizers added an extra day to the festival with a free concert on Thursday. We listened to lots of great music over four days. On Sunday evening we had a nice dinner at La Marmotte, 150 San Juan Ave, (970) 628-6232. We drove back to Amarillo on Monday
