Fishing

I wish I knew more about fishing. I know a little bit about fly fishing for trout in the Rocky Mountains. At one point I was tying my own flies.

I know almost nothing about spin fishing or bait casting for bass, crappie, etc.

I have been saltwater fishing in the bays of Texas for red drum (redfish) and spotted sea trout (speckled trout) a few times. When I have does this, I used a guide. I would not know how to do this on my own. In addition, I do not have a boat.

I have enjoyed fishing off the coast of Texas and the Florida Keys a few times. Again, these trips have all been professionally guided. I would be lost on my own. Sometimes, I dream about getting a place in the Keys, buying a boat, and learning about this life.

Mostly, I like fly fishing the small creeks in the backcountry of the Southern Rocky Mountains. In contrast, sometimes I fish the crowded, world-class, tailwater fishery on the San Juan River below Navajo Dam in New Mexico. This special water yields some large rainbow and brown trout.
